Ethiopian Airlines announced as winner of African Airline of the Year award for 2016

ETHIOPIAN AIRLINES has won the African Aviation ‘African Airline of the Year’ Award for 2016 in recognition of its Financial Performance, Fleet Modernisation, Route Network Expansion, In-Flight Service, Overall Customer Care and its Outstanding Contribution to Aviation Development in Africa.

The prestigious ‘African Airline of the Year’ Award was presented to Mr Mesfin Tasew, Chief Operating Officer, Ethiopian Airlines (below left) by Mr Nick Fadugba, CEO, African Aviation, on Wednesday, 11th May, 2016, during the 25th Anniversary African Aviation Air Finance Africa Conference & Exhibition & African Aviation Summit held in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Announcing the Award, Nick Fadugba congratulated Mr Tewolde Gebremariam, Chief Executive Officer, Ethiopian Airlines, together with Mr Mesfin Tasew, as well as the entire management and staff of Ethiopian Airlines for their exemplary performance.

“Ethiopian Airlines (ET) continues to set the pace through its tangible achievements and is a source of great pride to Africa,” said Mr Fadugba. “In addition, ET has also excelled in the provision of technical services to African and non-African airlines and has made an enormous contribution to the development of Aviation Human Resources for the African continent, particularly in the fields of aircraft maintenance, and pilot and cabin crew training.”

Responding, Ethiopian Airlines’ COO, Mr Mesfin Tasew, said: “On behalf of ET Executive Management, I would like to formally thank African Aviation in general, and you in particular, for recognizing the achievements of ET with the African Airline of the Year 2016 Award. It is a recognition of the visionary leadership of ET’s top management, and the hard work of thousands of ET employees. We are very pleased to win this Award this year.”

The African Aviation Awards were introduced by African Aviation Magazine in 1999 in Washington DC, USA, in order to give International recognition to those individuals, companies and organisations who have made significant contributions to aviation development in Africa. African Aviation, part of African Aviation Services Limited, was established by Nick Fadugba in 1990 to promote aviation development in Africa and facilitate economic and social development across the continent. This year, African Aviation celebrated the 25th Anniversary of its MRO Africa and Air Finance Africa Conferences.
